Insurance Benefits of a Wind Mitigation Inspection and Report
When it comes to your homeowners’ insurance policy there’s not too much you can do to influence your premiums. However, there’s a little known law (that seems to be seldom observed by insurance companies) that does give you some leverage when it comes to your home insurance premiums. According to Florida Statute Chapter 627, Section 711 titled “Notice of premium discounts for hurricane loss mitigation uniform mitigation verification inspection form” which says, in essence, your insurer is obligated to notify you about wind mitigation savings you might obtain by having a Wind Mitigation inspection. You can read the entire text at https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2011/627.771. If you did not receive such notification from your insurer, call them about receiving their form which is supposed to notify and advise you of what windstorm measures you can take to reduce you insurance premium as it relates to windstorm mitigation. This is primarily intended to provide guidance for measures YOU can take for windstorm mitigation. You may already have such measures in place and not know it. We can provide you with a certified Wind Mitigation Inspection and a Florida mandated detailed report (Form OIR-B1-1802) to give to your insurance company to see how much you can save every year on your home insurance premium.
